This is amazing subject to write about,( The dangers of reality shows) the article by author Timothy Sexton states that , the reality TV shows affected the young fans badly. These TV shows are targeting the young boys and girls. The makers of these TV shows insisted on sending out wrong massages to the young fans and keep them busy all the time. They let them be far away from the duties they have to do. I actually agree with the writer so much, because what this reality shows present, ruined and destroyed our young youth's brains. They keep them busy about what they should do in their lives. They destroyed the value of big meanings in our lives, like education, hard work and dreaming.
Reality TV shows valued believe of competition. They made young people believe that life is very easy. By some competitions, people can earn good money like thousands or millions. They can have this money without work or effort. They present competition as the main source for success, not work or education. Also between these massages that TV shows present, they give the prize to the unqualified contestant by the end of the show, just because he has charisma or he or she is hipper in front of the fans. The most important message they give to the young people is, the unvalued of education. Education is not important like before. Young youth can earn a lot of money without going to colleges or high schools. How they can go to schools or colleges, while they can earn a lot of money in these TV shows.
Firstly, I want to talk about competitions, and how they present them as the key for success in life. TV shows like super star, they put young boys and girls together in one place for a long time. Every week, one of the contestants has to go out of the show. They were able to attach young boys and girls to the screen for maybe three months. By the end, we can see that the competition has no meaning, boring and what happened last year, it happens this year. By the end of the competition, we know about the winner, who is not qualified to it. It has to do with the money makers and how they control the young people brains.
Furthermore, sometimes this contestant is not good enough to win, but they let him win just because he or she attached the fans to the screen, even thought this contestant is not qualified, but they have something that people love to watch. They take the winner as a package. They don’t care if he or she has lack of personality for example. The American idol 2 years ago, they let one of the contestant win because he has the family picture. He has a wife and a father and a mother .Actually he was not good enough to win, and the good one that should win, didn’t just because he was gay.
The most important and dangerous massage that these TV shows present is about education. These show unvalued the education. They convinced the young youth that they can make money with education, which it will affect, the globe on the long run. For me every time I go to my son’s room, I see him watching these shows. Ones I had conversation with him about education, and I was shocked. He said that education is not that important now days like before. He said that he can participate in one of these shows and make money more than if he went to college for four years. He said that if he graduates for college, how long it takes him to get a job? What kind of job, he will give him the money he wants. You know, I was afraid, because if this is the way that young youth are thinking. It means that there is something wrong. There is no value of a lot of things considered value like education, hard work and dreaming. Everything now related to money. Our society only cares about money and nothing but money. It is frightened.
By the end, we are responsible towards our kids. We can prevent them from watching these shows. Make value of everything we believe in for them, like hard work, learn how to earn money from their own hard work. Earn money from good education. Let them dream and believe in their dreams because one day these dreams will come true. So it is our responsibility.
